CHICAGO – This all new musical comedy tells the tale of two delusional lounge singers whose beliefs they are destined for greatness are put to the test. “The Starlight Lounge Presents Bracket & Spootz” begins previews August 11, opens August 25 at The Annoyance Theatre.
The Starlight Lounge was once the jewel of the Catskills, but the entertainment business ain’t what it used it to be. Night after night, resident performers Bracket and Spootz take the stage in hopes of showbiz success, sweating it out for nobody but weary travelers and drunks. But when a mysterious man from Hollywood visits, Bracket, Spootz, and the entire Starlight staff throw everything they have into trying to impress him.
The idea for the show was birthed on a bus by the two writers Griffin Wenzler and James Conklin. After a ride together that lasted the better part of an hour, they got off to realize they had spent the whole time conversing in pseudo-lounge-singer voices. This combined with their love of creating characters with over blown egos and good intentions resulted in the lovable lounge singers Bracket and Spootz. Under the direction of Susan Glynn, Wenzler declares that this is a musical that even non-musical theatre lovers can get behind.
“The Starlight Lounge Presents Bracket & Spootz” premieres in the Small Theatre at 8:00 PM on August 11, opens August 25, and will continue to run on Thursdays at 8:00 PM through September 29.
