Usually, it’s best to hear directly from the source. And when the source has the class and integrity of Chicago Theatre Workshop Artistic Director Tom Mullen, that’s particularly true. Below is what he wrote late March 14. But note, first, that tickets to Cheyenne Jackson‘s concerts at 5 and 8 pm at the Biograph Theater on March 18 are available via the link here.
Dear Chicago Theatre Workshop Friends and Laura Benanti Ticket Holders:
I am regretfully writing you tonight to inform you that, due to a personal family emergency, Laura Benanti has had to cancel both of her shows with us this Sunday.
We enjoyed an amazing response from the Chicago Theatre Workshop community to this event, and were anticipating a lovely evening of songs and stories from Laura. All of us at CTW hope for things to quickly improve for Laura and her family, and it goes without saying that we would love to have her back with us soon!
That said, we are lucky enough to have a truly sensational replacement ready to step in. This Grammy Award winner, Broadway star (and guest star on tomorrow night’s Will & Grace) is none other than the incredible Cheyenne Jackson.
Cheyenne will perform in Laura’s 5pm and 8pm slots, meaning that if you’ve already purchased tickets to either performance, you don’t need to do anything. Seats and show times remain the same.
And if you do choose not to attend, we will fully refund your ticket purchase(s).
As further apology for this unfortunate notice, we are offering an additional piece of compensation for all ticket holders to these shows—along with the chance to see Cheyenne, your ticket will also act as a complimentary ticket to our next show, the hilarious musical comedy Disaster! by Seth Rudetsky and Jack Plotnick. Simply email me at [email protected] with the dates of your choosing and I will send you your comped ticket(s) electronically.
As you know, this is our largest fundraiser to date—we count on it greatly to provide the funding we need to be able to produce the type of programming that we feel sets CTW apart. We truly cannot do it without you, and thank you for all of your support!
We sincerely thank you for your understanding in this unfortunate matter. We apologize for any consternation the last-minute news might have caused.
Cheyenne and the entire CTW team hope to see you this Sunday!
Best,
Tom Mullen
