Chicago Children’s Theatre extends ‘Frog and Toad’ through Nov. 12

October 19, 2017

CHICAGO – Chicago Children’s Theatre announced today a two-week extension of its current smash hit musical, A Year with Frog and Toad.

Originally scheduled to close October 29, families should jump on this new block of tickets now on sale for new performances added through Sunday, November 12.

Based on Arnold Lobel’s beloved Frog and Toad book series, the titular amphibians leap from the page to the stage in this heartwarming, all-ages musical that follows two best friends – the cheerful, popular Frog and the rather grumpy Toad – through a friendship that endures over four fun-filled seasons.

Don’t let your kids miss what the Chicago Tribune hailed “a lovely hour to add to your life.” All tickets are $35.

Or, families can still save money by adding A Year with Frog and Toad to a variety of Chicago Children’s Theatre 2017-18 multi-show Subscription Packages.

Chicago Children’s Theatre is presenting A Year with Frog and Toad at its new home, The Station, 100 S. Racine Ave., in the heart of Chicago’s West Loop community. Show times remain Tuesday through Friday at 10 a.m., Saturday at 10:30 a.m., 12:30 p.m. and

3 p.m., and Sunday at 10:30 am and 12:30 p.m. For single tickets, subscriptions and more information, visit chicagochildrenstheatre.org or call (872) 222-9555.

But wait, there’s more!

If your kid really wants to getta loada Toad, Chicago Children’s Theatre has also added four special Frog and Toad “workshop intensives.”

Participants will learn how to come out of their shell by rehearsing both a musical number and a scene from A Year with Frog and Toad, focused on acting, singing, movement and characterization skills. Each workshop will conclude with a live performance for friends and family on the set of A Year with Frog and Toad in The Station’s Pritzker Family Studio.

Frog and Toad workshops are Saturday, November 4 and 11: 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. for grades 1-3, and 3:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. for grades 4-6. The workshop fee is $100. Space is limited, so don’t wait to sign your child up for his once-in-a-lifetime experience. To register, visit chicagochildrenstheatre.org or call (872) 222-9555.

“Exceptionally enjoyable…a timeless tale” is how Chicago Parent described Chicago Children’s Theatre’s new take on A Year with Frog and Toad. Acclaimed Chicago director Stuart Carden collaborated on his reimagined, “in the pond” staging of this Tony-nominated family musical with music director Andra Velis-Simon, who also conducts the live score at every performance.

The show begins when Frog and Toad wake in the spring after a long hibernation. Despite their differences, the unlikely best friends go swimming, rake leaves, go sledding and learn life lessons, celebrating what makes them unique and special along the way. Full of joy and energy, top musical numbers, played live, include “Cookies,” “Getta Loada Toad,” “I’m Coming Out of My Shell” and “Merry Almost Christmas.”

Five multi-talented actor-musicians – Matthew C. Yee (Frog), Andy Nagraj (Toad), Jazelle Morris (Turtle), Shawn Pfautsch (Snail) and Lauren Vogel (Mouse) – not only share Lobel’s favorite stories, but they also play a wide variety of instruments live on every song.

The Frog and Toad production team includes John Musial (scenic design), Rachel Healy (costume design), Lee Fiskness (light design), Ellie Terrell (prop design) and Ari Clouse (stage manager).

Since its launch in 2005, Chicago Children’s Theatre has earned its reputation as the city’s largest professional theater company devoted exclusively to children and young families. After 11 years of itinerancy, Chicago Children’s Theatre opened its new permanent home, The Station, in January 2017 in what used to be the 12th District Chicago Police Station. The original building was fully repurposed into a beautiful, mixed-use performing arts, education and community engagement facility that now welcomes all Chicago families.

Note: CCT also offers deeply discounted group rates, as low as $10 per ticket, for schools, playgroups, birthday parties and scouting groups. CPS schools may be eligible for financial assistance. Email [email protected] or call (872) 222-9555 to learn more.
