James Monroe Števko, native of Wheaton, IL, will be taking over the National Yiddish Folksbiene instagram Saturday, 9/22/18. Stevko is currently appearing as Mendl in the Yiddish “Fiddler on the Roof,” a sold out NY Times Critic Pick.

Števko graduated from Northern Illinois University after starting dance at 18. Locally, he has been seen: multiple seasons at the Lyric Opera of Chicago, The Paramount, Drury Lane and Dance fore Life. He was recently feature in the Daily Herald, Chicago Jewish Home and Suburban Life.
The production opened off-Broadway at the Museum of Jewish Heritage, directed by Tony, Golden Globe and Academy Award winner, Joel Grey and also features Second City alum, Jackie Hoffman as Yente. After opening on July 15, the sold-out run of the show extended twice, with a projected closing date of October 25th. An announcement about the show’s future will be announced October 1st, according to the Wall Street Journal. The show has gotten the attention of stars: Bernadette Peters, Mandy Patinkin, Isabella Rossellini, Bebe Neuwirth and Stephen Schwartz.
