CHICAGO – The Den Theatre is excited to announce THE ONE: THE MATRIX PARODY MUSICAL, an exciting new musical by Laura Marsh that will make you question you own sense of reality. Directed by C.J. Tuor, THE ONE will play August 2 – August 25, 2019 at The Den Theatre (1331 N. Milwaukee Ave.). The show’s running time is 90 minutes with one 10-minute intermission. The Den Theatre houses multiple bars and drinks are allowed inside the theater.

The One: The Matrix Parody Musical combines hilarity & harmony to poke fun at everyone’s favorite digitally dystopian 90’s classic. Audiences join Neo as he goes down the musical rabbit hole to learn his real purpose. Created by fans, for fans, the show centers on the events of the first film while paying tribute to the expanded universe. The two-act story with intermission features an original score, dance battles, pop songs, and puppets, all in a D.I.Y. style! This is THE ONE parody musical you won’t want to miss!

ABOUT THE PLAYWRIGHT
Laura Marsh is a performer, choreographer, improviser, and comedy writer turned playwright. While in Chicago, Laura has been a contributing writer for sketch shows performed at Improv Olympic, Second City Studio Theaters, The Crowd, MCL, and Gorilla Tango. Performance credits include Friends: The One Where They Sing, Rookie of the Year: The Musical, Urinetown, Closer, and My Fair Lady. Choreography credits include Yippee Ki-Yay Merry Christmas: A Die Hard Musical Parody, Friends: The One Where They Sing, Rookie of the Year: The Musical, Trash Boy! The Musical and The Wedding Singer. Laura has also toured nationally with Curious George Live!, and performed internationally with Disney Cruise Lines and at the Karl May Festspiele in Elspe, Germany. A Tennessee native, Laura is a graduate of Cumberland University with a BFA in English and Theatre. Laura is part of a three-person team that developed a new card game, successfully launched on Kickstarter, called Earworm. She sometimes updates her website, lauramarshonline.com.
ABOUT THE DIRECTOR
C.J. Tuor is a Chicago based-based director, performer and writer. He graduated from the Illinois State Theater Education Program and the Second City Conservatory. CJ is currently an Understudy with The Second City and a writer for Jackbox Games. He founded High Stakes Productions in 2012 and performs improvised murder/comedy in their shows Hitch*Cocktails and Clued-In. He has directed The Great Annoyance Melodrama & Vaudeville Revue, Attack of the 50 ft Feature and a variety of other genre-heavy improv and sketch productions. Recently, he’s been devising and leading workshops for improvisers and other groups on how to incorporate cinema and TV tropes into live theater.
ABOUT THE DEN THEATRE
In 2010, Ryan Martin rented a second floor with one room, and opened his very own theatre in Chicago’s Wicker Park. What was once a space without a name is now The Den Theatre, home to more active and performance and event space than any other building in the country.
