Spain’s ‘Las Minas Puerto Flamenco’ in Chicago for just one night, Sept. 25makes Chicago

September 7, 2017

CHICAGO – In the fourth concert of a world tour through five continents, “Las Minas Puerto Flamenco” debuts at the Harris Theater Chicago (205 E Randolph St) on September 25 at 7:30 p.m. A musical performance celebrating the history of Flamenco integrates song and dance with eleven different artists over the course of 100 minutes. “Las Minas Puerto Flamenco” blends together guitars, dancing, flamenco flute, flamenco saxophone and percussion together, taking audiences through the history of flamenco and world music genres such as habeneras, colombianas, rodeñas, vidalitas, milongas and guajiras merging with soleás, tanguilos, alegrías and flamenco bulerias. Tickets ($25 – $70) for the one-night-only performance can be purchased through the Harris Theater Chicago website at HarrisTheaterChicago.org or by calling 312.334.7777.

A performance full of sensitivity and imagery, “Las Minas Puerto Flamenco” explores the history of Flamenco through trade ports—hubs for export but also celebration, day and night. From the guajira set off for the Caribbean from the Canary Islands to the Cuban habaneras that arrived to Spanish ports, the talented musicians and dancers of “Las Minas Puerto Flamenco” celebrate the history of the music style and its many influences. The Las Minas Flamenco Tour began in 2012 in Mexico City as an initiative to promote Flamenco across the world. Since then, the group has traveled across five continents, performing in world-class theaters in Johannesburg, Toronto, Melbourne, Sydney, Quito, Santiago, Dubai and more. In 2014, it was awarded with the Gold Medal of Merit in the Fine Arts and it is the only Flamenco Festival officially rated as Marca España (Brand Spain). Acciona is a proud sponsor of the 2017 International Flamenco World Tour.

The cast of “Las Minas Puerto Flamenco” includes Eduardo Guerrero, Juan de Juan and Yolanda Osueno (dancers); Gema Caballero, Manuel Soto and Bernardo Miranda (singers); José Tomás Jiménez and Javier Ibáñez (guitar); Oscar de Manuel (flute); Juan Diego Sáez (flamenco saxophone); and Lolo Plantón (percussion). “Las Minas Puerto Flamenco” is directed by the internationally recognized Ángel Rojas, produced by Aurelio Solana and features costume design by Francis Montesinos.
