‘Take It Back’ variety show reclaims typecast roles at The Annoyance

October 31, 2018

CHICAGO – “Take It Back!” is a variety show dedicated to reclaiming historically typecast roles and presenting them in a new light. We tasked a diverse cast of artists to perform roles they would never get, rewrite dated songs for the 21st century, or create original pieces challenging societal roles or stereotypes. The result is a hilarious variety show featuring parodies of musical theater classics, original stand up, and sketch comedy. Think Oklahoma! meets Hamilton, with a Cabaret twist.

The inspiration of the show came when director, Annie Conderacci, and a friend were discussing the roles they desired versus roles they frequently played. Sick of playing the “sassy friend”, they wanted to create a show where artists could play the roles they always dreamed of, regardless of their type. Thanks to The Annoyance they were able to make “Take It Back!” a dream come true.

The diverse cast reflects a range of perspectives and talents, all underrepresented in theater, music, and film. Artists reference the show on social media with the hashtag #reclaimingmytype, as they use their “type” inspires art from their unique perspective.

“Take It Back!” premieres in The Mainstage Theater on November 8th, at 9:30pm, continuing at the same time Thursday November 15th and November 29th. No show on Thanksgiving 11/22. Tickets are $8.

For more information, view The Annoyance website, theannoyance.com or call the box office: 773.697.9693. The Annoyance is located at 851 W. Belmont, Chicago, IL 60657.
