CHICAGO – Theo Ubique Cabaret Theatre will not produce its previously announced cabaret LAST CALL AT NO EXIT, which was to have been a retrospective of the company’s productions in its home of the past 13 years and would have been its final production at the No Exit Café at 6970 N. Glenwood Avenue.
Artistic Director Fred Anzevino made the official announcement today, saying “The logistics of moving into our new home at 721 Howard Street in Evanston and the preparations needed for that move, made it impracticable for us to additionally produce the summer cabaret. Over the next months, our attention will have to be focused on building out and moving into the new space.” Season ticketholders have been notified of the cancellation and have been given the options of receiving pro-rated refunds for their LAST CALL seats, applying a credit toward their subscription renewal for 2018-19, or making their credit a tax-deductible donation to the company.
Theo Ubique is currently planning to open its 2018-19 season in the new Evanston space in November and will be announcing the season shortly. Its last performance in the No Exit Café will be the Sunday, May 20th performance of Stephen Sondheim’s “musical thriller” SWEENEY TODD: THE DEMON BARBER OF FLEET STREET, which on Monday, April 23rd was honored with seven Jeff award nominations – including Musical, Direction of a Musical, Music Direction, Performers in a Leading Role of a Musical (Philip Torre and Jacquelyne Jones), Costume Design, and Lighting Design. Performances of SWEENEY TODD are Thursdays-Saturdays at 7:30 pm and Sundays at 7:00 pm. Tickets are still available for many performances and may be ordered at www.theo-u.org.
