Underscore Theatre Company and MusicalTheaterSongs.com are teaming up to get songs by Chicagoland artists recognized.
The Chicago Prize, sponsored by MusicalTheaterSongs.com, will be offering monetary prizes to any singer competing in the 13th Annual Classical Singers competition in May 2017. That means that singers are incentivized to find, license and sing songs by Chicago composers and lyricists. These songs will have the chance to gain exposure to not only the 1,500 aspiring artists participating in the competition, but to judges, fans and the 45,000 readers that subscribe to Classical Singer Magazine.
So how do composers and lyricists get their songs considered?
Underscore Theatre Company and the Chicago Musical Theatre Festival are teaming up with MusicalTheatreSongs.com to create a dedicated link page to material from Chicago writers and composers. MusicalTheaterSongs.com features more than 11,000 song titles spanning 150 years of theater. Users can search the database using up to 20 parameters and 100 descriptive tags to pinpoint exactly the right song for an audition or a performance or for study.
If you elect to sign up to list your music, you can add songs to the database free of charge using a simple cataloging system. The site gets thousands of visits each month, so it’s a great way to get exposure for your work and drive more traffic to your website.
MusicalTheaterSongs.com is used by dozens of schools and universities worldwide and was featured recently in Playbill. MusicalTheaterSongs.com does not sell music—they route to your own website—and takes no commission or fees so you get all the benefits and proceeds of having your songs listed on the site. If you don’t yet have a website, we can also direct users directly to your email address.
If you are interested in being listed, reach out to [email protected] for a chance for your song to be the one that wins the Chicago Prize this May 22-26 at the annual CS Convention at the Sheraton Hotel and Towers.
More information about the convention can be found at www.classicalsinger.com/vocalcompetition.
